“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3, ESV)
It is they who recognize the powerlessness of their spiritual condition, they who realize they owe a debt they cannot pay, they who feel and acknowledge how destitute they are without Christ, who are in the best possible condition.
It is only that person who is humble enough, and simultaneously bold enough, to come before the court of Heaven and declare spiritual bankruptcy.
It is only that person who will then know the joy of inheriting the kingdom of heaven.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:15–16, ESV)
