“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Matthew 6:24, ESV)
No one survives the tension of competing loyalties for very long before something breaks.
Like the African proverb says, “The man who tries to walk down two roads will eventually split his pants.”
The problem is, when it comes to trying to serve two masters, it’s not your pants that are going to tear in two.
It’s your soul.
