“You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.” -Psalm 4:7
In contrast to his enemies who love vain words and seek after lies (4:2), David rejoiced more in the favor of God and had more satisfaction in having God’s countenance beam upon him than any earthly man could, even if all his bins were full of corn and his cellars full of wine. Earthly men forsake the grace of God to fall head over teakettle after riches and power only to find these earthly pursuits less than satisfying and their selves frequently plunged into ruin and destruction (1 Tim 6:9-10).
Jesus, I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.-Jean Sophia Pigott
