“He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart;” (Psalm 15:2, ESV)
The first set of criteria for who will be allowed to “sojourn” in the tent of God and “dwell” in his holy hill is to walk blameless, do what’s right and speak the truth. The three verbs—walks, does, and speaks—indicates a pattern of life characterized by blamelessness, righteousness and truth. In one sense, there has only ever been one person to have lived this way consistently, Jesus.
For the Christian, Jesus not only took our sin debt, but in our union with Him, his blamelessness, righteousness, and truthfulness are imputed to us. “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV)
As followers of Christ, we are justified by Christ apart from the law, but we are justified unto good works. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10, ESV). This means, though we are saved by our union with Christ, our union with Christ will compel us to live a life that is blameless, righteous, and truthful.
