“The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me. For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God. For all his rules were before me, and his statutes I did not put away from me. I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. So the Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.” -Psalm 18:20–24
Here, as before, David pleads his righteousness. He is not claiming sinless perfection, but that he is not guilty of the sins and crimes his enemies accuse him of. Further, David has committed himself to the Law and worship of God alone and he is assured that he will be rewarded by God for his faithfulness.
In Christ, we too can be assured of our righteous before God. And we too can enter the throne room of God, boldly. Paul teaches us, “But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:” -Romans 3:21–22 cf. Hebrews 4:15-16
