“Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” -Psalm 19:11
David is here acknowledging to God that whatever success he had in life was due to the ordering of it by the Laws and testimonies of the Lord. This verse stands as a testimony to all who read or sing the Psalm, that those who depart from God’s laws are bound to fall into numerous sins and errors. And those who abide God’s law will know great reward.
This is a truth deeply fixed in the heart and demonstrated in the life of David. But more importantly, it is a truth each of us need to reconcile in our hearts and lives. There is a law (one we cannot keep because the flesh is weak) that is good, true, and beautiful in and of itself.
And, in Christ, who fulfilled the Law on our behalf, we can know and possess the great reward of keeping God’s Law and ordering our own lives by it (Matthew 5:17 cf. 7:24-27).
