“All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.” -Psalm 25:10
Sinful humans need the gracious guidance of the Lord but not all will receive it. As the psalmist noted previously (18:26), “with the purified you show yourself pure; and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous.” Therefore, it is only the humble, those who keep his covenant and testimonies, who find the paths of the Lord sweet and true. Those who reject the Lord find his law severe and stern.
This is why Jesus says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”” -Matthew 11:29–30
Every man is a servant. As Dylan reminded us, “it may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but you’re gonna have to serve somebody.” Those who take the Lord’s yoke upon them will learn he is a gentle and faithful savior. Those who take another yoke will never find rest for their souls and they will find the Lord’s yoke (his Law) is not easy and his burden will be heavier than a millstone in the middle of the ocean.
