“In just a little while, the wicked will be no more; though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there. But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.” -Psalm 37:10–11
The meek shall inherit the land, though for the moment is seems the wicked have taken possession of it. The land spoken of here refers to the nation, the kingdom, and will later be expanded to encompass the whole earth (Matthew 5:5) because the whole earth will be the realm of the Lord’s kingdom (Isaiah 11:9; Habakkuk 2:14).
The meek are those who fret not and commit their way to the Lord. They are those who refrain from anger, wrath, and from envying the evildoers; and they are those who look ahead to the day when the wicked have been judged and exiled from the land and thereby wait on the Lord in hopeful patience.
The meek—not the wicked—will inherit the land and delight themselves in peace; not in mere peace, but in abundant peace.
