“He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”” -Psalm 2:4–6
In their rebellion, the kings of the city of man set themselves against the Lord and his anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”
Holding them in derision, he replies with terror and wrath. His words are a judgment declared upon them. But let us ponder this for a moment. His judgment against them and their rebellion, that which is terrifying to wicked men is the fact that he has installed a king on the throne of the city of God. This is not just any king, but his king!
David was a type of this king, but it was his son, King Jesus, that is the rightful heir and ruler who is set on Zion, God’s holy hill!
Christ the King is a terror to sinful and wicked men.
