“Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.” -Psalm 22:3–5
Allen Ross suggests this Psalm is not about illness but about execution. He asserts, “It is primarily the account of a righteous man who was being put to death by wicked men.” And it is no mystery that our Lord uttered these very words on the cross during his crucifixion (Matt. 27:46; Mark 15:34). It was likely that he was reciting theses Psalms in his agony.
After lamenting his great sense of abandonment in verses 1-2, David finds confidence in the faith of this fathers who trusted in the Lord and were delivered. They were not put to shame by trusting the Lord and discovering their hopes only came up empty. They prayed and The Lord rescued them. David would find strength in their testimonies, which is one of the reasons it is important for us to learn the rich Christian heritage that we have come into.
Phyllis Wilson says
I often wonder if I would be walking with the Lord today without the godly heritage I received from my parents and grandparents. They consistently lived Jesus in front of me every single day. I am thankful for them and pray I am passing that heritage on to my family.
