“I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.” -Psalm 17:6–7
O Wondrous love and faithfulness of God. Like an infant or child who cries for its mother, certain of the solace and safety of her embrace, David calls out to God with the same confidence. God’s love is dependable, unshakeable, and unmovable. He is a covenant Savior who bends to hear his anxious children and picks them up, and gives them real comfort and safety. He is a strong and dependable refuge from those who seek to do them harm. So, David calls upon God because he knows He will answer him.
He still answers his children, today. “Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” -Matthew 6:9–13
