“for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” -Psalm 24:2
Verse 2 is simply a continuation and expansion on verse 1 that “the wonderful providence of God is clearly reflected in the whole face of the earth” (Calvin). That God would bring the earth up out of the water and found it upon the seas and rivers is a testimony to his intention that man would inhabit his creation.
“And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.” -Genesis 1:9–10
One question this should raise about God’s plan for man is if the earth was intended for his habitation, why are some Christians unwittingly gnostic in their theology?
