“Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.” (Psalm 16:1, ESV)
There are a few occasions in David’s life that may have warranted writing this particular Psalm, but we are not told what it is. Verse one summarizes the entire Psalm, however, expressing the theme of having all his affections centered on and resting in God alone. God is the preserver of, and a refuge for, his people. There are no other gods, and those who run after them multiply to themselves sorrows and find no refuge.
