“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” -Psalm 4:8
What greater joy is there than to be free from all fear, from the torment of worrying about the instabilities of a nation and its economy, or from the vexation of caring about the uncertain health and welfare of loved ones?
David concludes the Psalm by declaring his contentment to trust in the power of God. He will enjoy as much security and peace as if he had been defended by all the soldiers on earth. With that, let us not fail to remember that just as joy depends not on earthly circumstances but on God’s blessings, so does peace rest in God’s protection and provisions.
