“I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you: You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him, and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he cried to him.” -Psalm 22:22–24
This passage in the Psalm echoes the votive feast whereby one who vowed a vow before the Lord, should he answer his prayer. Upon the prayer being granted, the petitioner was to perform the promised service to the Lord, often a sacrifice. It was accompanied by a feast and testimony of the answered prayer before the congregation (cf. Psalm 40:9ff and Psalm 116:14).
God hears the petitions of the afflicted and delivers them from their affliction. David was an example to the congregation of Israel, rescued before meeting his demise. Christ Jesus was the ultimate example, being raised from the dead.
The testimony of God’s faithfulness in the midst of the congregation is a powerful weapon against the wiles of the enemy (Revelation 12:11).
