We are historical beings.
Like the surface of standing water, our present state of being is the sum total of all the water beneath the surface.
Like a garden, the produce we are harvesting is a result of the seeds we have been planting.
Said another way, today is the sum total of all the choices we have made throughout our lives.
You and I are drinking, today, the water we have been adding to the cistern in days gone by.
You and I are eating, today, the fruit of the seeds we planted in the garden last spring.
Each day we choose what kind of water we will add to the tank.
Each day we choose which kinds of seeds we will plant in our garden.
Each day we choose truth or deceit.
Each day we choose humility or pride.
Each day we choose kindness or unkindness.
Each day we choose love or hate.
Each day we choose words of edification or words of destruction.
Each day we choose faith or doubt.
Each day we choose forgiveness or bitterness.
Right now you and I are planning tomorrow’s menu.
Right now you and I are treating the quality of tomorrow’s drinking water.
We choose today what we will eat and drink tomorrow. It’s the law of nature.
We can’t sow wild oats today and pray for a crop failure tomorrow; and, we can’t poison the well today and expect to find health in the water tomorrow.
Today’s dining experience was determined yesterday.
If you don’t like the menu, eat without complaining. You planned the menu.
Just do a better job, today, planning your menu for tomorrow.
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. – Galatians 6:7
