“Do not forsake me, O Lord! O my God, be not far from me! Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!” -Psalm 38:21–22
The Psalm closes with a final appeal, a device frequently used in the Psalms. There is a sort of pitiful (not forsake me, O Lord! O my God, be not far from me) and urgent (Make haste to help me) but beautiful (O Lord, my salvation!) finality about the Psalmist conclusion. He has confessed his sin, acknowledged the justice in his physical and relational suffering, and asked for relief from those who would exploit him in this low time of his life. Now, in confident hope, he leaves it in the hands of the Lord his Savior.
Obviously, we are left with this blessed model for a reason.
