“For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.” -Psalm 33:4–5
The passage opens with for indicating the reason for the praise in the first three verses. As a matter of fact, these verses are central to the entire Psalm. They focus on the quality and integrity of the Lord’s word and the Lord’s work. In the verses that follow, the Psalmist will elaborate on examples and implications of the faithfulness of the Lord’s word and work, but here we learn of it’s objective quality.
The Lord loves righteousness and justice, therefore his word is upright and is works are done in faithfulness. The earth itself is filled with examples of the Lord’ steadfast love.
This reminds us that we can trust the Lord for whatever he says or does. Even when things don’t got the way we anticipated or planned, even when they don’t make sense to us here and now, we can be confident it is good for its own sake and good for those who love the Lord.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:28
