“O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah” -Psalm 3:1–2
The psalm opens with David, the psalmist, lamenting the many (repeated 3x) foes rising against him and speaking disparagingly of his spiritual condition. It seems the popular opinion is that David’s sin (the matter of Bathsheba and Uriah?) has alienated him from God’s blessings and induced the curse upon his life (Deuteronomy 30:15-20).
The accusers are saying of David’s soul, “There is no salvation for him in God!”
And so it was said of Jesus at Calvary (“He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.” -Matthew 27:42 cf. Mark 15:31 & Luke 23:35)
And so the accuser says of God’s elect! (Revelation 12:10)
